When it comes to getting healthy, there’s definitely no time like the present.
Fortunately, the “here and now” happens to be Health and Wellness Month, and the next 29 days offer plenty of fun ways to take your personal well-being to the next level.
Summer is in full effect, and with the great weather now is the perfect time to get outside, get moving and take (literal) steps toward a healthier you.
The (first) 12 Days of HAWM
On the first day of Health and Wellness Month, a drawing might give to you: a Fitbit for a healthier you!
Okay, so that’s not exactly the best rhyme (or one at all, really), but unlike the classic holiday song referenced in that lackluster lyrical attempt, the window of opportunity to win a top-of-the-line activity tracker is brief.
The first dozen days of July will see drawings where one lucky entrant each day will win a Fitbit activity tracker. To enter, just fill out this sign-up form, then proceed to cross your fingers and wait for the results. Winners are randomly selected each day.
In order to be eligible, you must be an employee of the State of Indiana currently enrolled in a state health benefits plan.
The best part, if you’re lucky enough to have your name drawn, is you won’t have to wait until the holidays to unwrap a gift that could help keep you motivated toward achieving your fitness goals. The wearable device will come in handy in all seasons, even when you’re “getting your steps in” on some freshly fallen snow.
Step to the Next Level
By the way, are you getting your steps in? The positive health implications of walking are many, and the annual statewide steps challenge (called “Step to the Next Level”) is filled with incentives to make a daily stroll the best kind of habit – now and in the future.
The steps challenge kicked off July 1 and will continue through the end of the month.
Connect a fitness device to your Go365 account and “get to stepping” toward potentially hundreds of Go365 points. Just joining the challenge – and taking at least one verified step – will get you 50 points. Check out https://www.go365.com/ for more information.

Run (and hike) the State!
Two of the 2018 Run the State 5K and Hike Series events take place this month.
Coming off of a successful run at Indiana Dunes State Park in April, state employees closed out June by hiking gorgeous Harmonie State Park in Posey County.
Wells County’s beautiful Ouabache State Park is next on the exciting agenda with a 5K set for July 14. Ouabache is a new location for the series in 2018, and there are plenty of reasons to explore the park after you finish the 3-mile jaunt.
It’s not too late to sign up, so get registered and meet us “on the banks of the Wabash” July 14! The fun and games won’t be far away!
Meanwhile, the series’ second and final hike hits the trails of Clifty Falls State Park July 28.
Hiking aficionados will scope out a pair of 60-foot waterfalls and journey through a 600-foot tunnel (all that remains of a mid-19th century railroad project) en route to completing the scenic trek in Madison. Remember: this course is not stroller-friendly.
This year’s series concludes Aug. 11 with a 5K at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis.

#HAWM and Indy Health Fair
More than two dozen organizations are set to set-up shop at the Indiana Government Center South building for the July 27 State of Indiana Health Fair in the largest single-day event planned for the month.
This is a chance for employees in the Indianapolis area to hear about fitness promotions, take part in free health screenings, get financial tips and much, much more!
More details are expected to become available later this month.
